Fire at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute - everyone safe, school is closed for rest of the day
Students and staff at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute have been safely evacuated to Ingersoll District Memorial Centre (arena) following a fire at the school on Friday morning.
Ingersoll firefighters were called to the school around 10 a.m. to reports of smoke. The fire has been extinguished and firefighters remain on scene.
The school will be closed for the rest of the day while restoration crews clear smoke from the building.
Parents who wish to dismiss their child for the day may call the school attendance line or pick up their child directly at the arena and speak with a designated staff member (who will be wearing a designated safety vest).
Bus transportation will be available at the regular end of day dismissal time from the Ingersoll arena.
At this time, for safety reasons it’s not possible to retrieve personal belongings from the school. We’ll advise if and when that situation changes.
Unless families are notified otherwise, classes will resume as scheduled on Monday morning.
